The Kitchen

New from the floor up.

Rebuilt from the cabinets to the appliances, and opened to the dining room. The window over the sink looks out on the beech in the back yard.

The bay window over the sink and the full lineup alongside: the apron sink, dishwasher, stainless gas range, vented hood, and the refrigerator beyond.

The cabinets are new white shaker, a full run of drawers and uppers over quartz counters, with an apron-front farmhouse sink beneath a three-pane bay window.

The appliances are a full stainless lineup: a gas range with a six-burner cooktop and oven below, a vented hood above it, and a dishwasher beside the sink. A panel-front Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer, two full-height side-by-side doors, sits flush with the cabinetry, built in rather than parked against the wall.

A peninsula anchors the room, quartz across the top with a microwave set into its end and an overhang on the dining side with room to pull up a stool. It faces the dining room, so whoever is cooking stays part of the table, and the back door out to the deck and yard is a few steps away.

Two large skylights open over the sink, so the kitchen draws daylight and fresh air from overhead, not only through the bay window. The floor carries the same warm tone as the rest of the main level.

Peninsula open to dining
The apron-front sink under the bay window.
A skylight runs the length of the sloped ceiling, daylight pouring over the range and the sink.
The range wall: six-burner gas cooktop, oven below, vented hood above.
The range alongside the panel-front refrigerator and the tall pantry cabinet.
From the sink side: the range, the panel-front refrigerator, and the cabinets wrapping the corner.
The panel-front Sub-Zero open: full-height fridge and freezer side-by-side, hidden behind cabinet panels when closed.
A pantry counter beside the refrigerator, shaker cabinets, quartz counter, a glass-block window.
From the dining side, the whole kitchen in one frame: sink, range, fridge, and the sightline through to the entry.
Kitchen and dining share one room, the peninsula in the center, the cabinet run on one side, the built-in china cabinet across the floor.
The peninsula, built-in microwave in its end, opens straight onto the dining corner.
